Air tools outlast electric equivalents in continuous heavy use — they don't overheat or burn out and are lighter. But one question must be answered first: can your compressor feed the tool?
The Most Common Mistake: Compressor Mismatch
"The impact wrench is weak" is usually not the tool's fault but air flow. Every air tool has an air consumption figure (CFM / l/min). Your compressor should deliver at least 1.5× the tool's consumption.
- Pressure: Most air tools run at 6.2–6.3 bar (90 psi).
- Flow: The real determinant.
- Tank volume: A buffer for intermittent work.
Impact Wrench Selection
- 1/2": Auto service and general maintenance standard.
- 3/4" and 1": Heavy vehicles, shipyards, steel structures.
Safety: Always use CrMo impact sockets. Chrome-plated hand sockets shatter under impact.
Air Line and FRL
- Water filter: Condensate rusts the tool internally.
- Lubricator: Air tools rely on oil mist; without it vanes fail quickly.
- Hose diameter: Thin or overly long hoses cause pressure drop — the silent cause of power loss.
